DAILY: Cold snap expected to shore up China's thermal coal market

China's domestic thermal coal prices lost steam on January 16, as traders trimmed offers in response to the waning buying demand, yet an approaching cold snap is expected to lend support to the market, sources said.

On Friday, Mysteel assessed 5,500 kcal/kg NAR thermal coal at Yuan 704/tonne ($101/t), FOB northern ports with VAT, down Yuan 2/t on day. The 5,000 kcal/kg and 4,500 kcal/kg NAR grades both slipped by Yuan 2/t as well to Yuan 618/t and Yuan 526/t, respectively. The pullback came as more
