On March 9, the price of electrolytic cobalt declined Yuan 500/tonne to Yuan 427,595-428,591/tonne from the previous trading day. However, the prices of cobalt sulfate and cobalt chloride both remained stable at Yuan 95,000/t-98,000/t and 115,000-120,000/t respectively.On the cost side, as inventories of cobalt intermediates are continuously being digested, the proportion of MHP process in cobalt sulfate production has noticeably increased. Coupled with concerns among ternary precursor producers about a potential demand decline in Q2, procurement has slowed down. This has led to a slight decrease in transaction prices, trending closer to the cost of MHP process. However, the relatively high production costs for cobalt intermediates and electrolytic cobalt have made the market quotations diverged. Last week, some transactions were concluded in the range of Yuan 95,000-98,000/tonne.
