Podcast - Hormuz Disruption: Assessing the Risk and China Watchpoints
A new episode of Mysteel Commodity Flux podcast examines how disruption in the Strait of Hormuz is changing the way the market prices oil risk and assesses China's near-term supply exposure. In this episode, Liao Na, Chief Consultant of Energy Policies, highlights three watchpoints: First, China's immediate challenge is price risk rather than outright supply loss, as the impact of disrupted Middle East flows is transmitted with a lag. Second, the impact will not be evenly distributed: refiners with greater reliance on Middle Eastern crude, as well as some downstream chemicals, face greater supply and margin pressure. Third, two near-term indicators stand out clearly: actual crude arrivals, and any policy adjustment on reserves, fuel pricing and China's domestic supply.
