According to the crop progress report released by the USDA, as of the week ending April 19, the U.S. soybean planting rate was 12%, in line with market expectations, compared with 7% a year earlier and a five-year average of 5%. Current planting progress is faster than normal levels for this time of year, but the market is concerned that rainfall in the U.S. Midwest over the next two weeks could delay soybean planting. Brazil is now at the peak of its soybean export season, with April exports expected to exceed 16 million metric tons. As the weather window in South America gradually closes, market attention is shifting from South America to North America. The continued deepening of the global soybean supply glut remains a constraint on price recoveries.
