DAILY: China's thermal coal rally pauses on policy intervention expectations

China's domestic thermal coal rally stalled on May 12, ending a roughly two-week run, as buying momentum that had built since late April faded amid reports that authorities may step in to cool the overheated market.

On Tuesday, Mysteel assessed 5,500 kcal/kg NAR thermal coal at Yuan 835/tonne ($122.9/t) FOB northern ports with VAT, unchanged from the previous day and ending a continuous uptrend since early April. The 5,000 kcal/kg and 4,500 kcal/kg NAR grades also stabilized at Yuan 748/t and Yuan 651/t, respectively. Spot market
