DAILY: Chinese alumina prices soften in spot, futures markets

Chinese alumina prices for spot sales softened further on May 21, while those for futures contracts also weakened following the previous day's volatility.

Mysteel assessed the average price for metallurgical-grade alumina with a minimum purity of 98.6% at Yuan 2,700/tonne ($397/t) on Thursday, down by another Yuan 3/t from Wednesday and marking the lowest price level in more than three weeks. Behind the price drop were largely softer prices in three of China's five major alumina-producing regions.
