WEEKLY: China EAF mills lift output again despite negative margins

Production among China's electric-arc-furnace (EAF) steelmakers rebounded during May 29-June 4 after the previous week's fall, with more mills restarting operations after completing maintenance, Mysteel's survey results showed.

During the latest survey period, the average capacity utilization rate among the 94 independent EAF steel producers under Mysteel's tracking had increased 0.8 percentage point from the prior week to 62.4%, while the average operational rate of these mills also went up 1.4 percentage points on week to 77.4%.
