WEEKLY: China's coking coal output slumps further on mine-safety checks

Having dropped markedly during the previous week, production among the 523 coking coal mines under Mysteel's nationwide survey declined further during May 28-June 3, as intensified safety inspections continued to disrupt mine operations in North China's Shanxi, the country's major coking coal province.

The results of Mysteel's latest survey show that average raw coal output among the 523 sampled mines dropped by another 9.2% on week to 1.6 million tonnes/day, marking the lowest level in about five years, excluding the usual drop during each year's Chinese New Year period. According to Mysteel's regional
