China's manganese ore prices fall to 6.5-month low

China's manganese ore prices remained weak during the period of July 15-21, with Mysteel assessing the price of South Africa-origin 36.5% grade manganese ore at North China's Tianjin port at Yuan 35.7/dmtu ($5.3/dmtu) including the 13% VAT on July 21. This was only lower by Yuan 0.6/dmtu on week but was the lowest since January 8, nonetheless.

The retreat in silicomanganese (SiMn) prices in both the derivative and physical markets has led manganese alloy smelters to try and cut their procurement prices of manganese ore to reduce their smelting costs, Mysteel Global learned.
