DAILY: China's thermal coal rally loses steam on soft demand

China's portside thermal coal market snapped its two-week uptrend on July 23, as persistently lackluster demand weighed on prices, even though the cost floor, anchored by traders' procurement costs from mining hubs, remained firm.

Mysteel assessed 5,500 kcal/kg NAR thermal coal at northern ports remained flat on day at Yuan 825/tonne ($121.7/t) FOB with VAT, the first flat session in two weeks. The 5,000 kcal/kg and 4,500 kcal/kg NAR grades also held steady at Yuan 735/t at Yuan 642/t. Along the Yangtze River
