DAILY: China's thermal coal extends rally amid faster port destocking

Thermal coal prices at China's northern ports rose for a third straight session on August 4, as portside destocking deepened signaling a tightening supply-demand balance. Price hikes by a top mining group also bolstered market sentiment.

On Tuesday, Mysteel assessed 5,500 kcal/kg NAR thermal coal at northern ports at Yuan 834/tonne ($123.0/t) FOB with VAT, up Yuan 5/t from Monday. The 5,000 kcal/kg NAR grade also rose Yuan 5/t to Yuan 744/t, and the 4,500 kcal/kg NAR grade gained Yuan 6/t to Yuan 654/t. At
