WEEKLY: China's thermal coal rebounds on heat-driven demand, stock drawdowns

China's thermal coal market edged higher over August 37, as late-summer heat boosted utility coal consumption and port inventories logged a third consecutive weekly draw, signs of a tightening supply-demand balance that sources expect to carry into next week.

As of August 6, Mysteel assessed the benchmark 5,500 kcal/kg NAR thermal coal at Yuan 845/tonne ($124.4/t) FOB northern ports with VAT, up Yuan 20/t from a week earlier. The 5,000 kcal/kg and 4,500 kcal/kg NAR grades rose to Yuan 755/t and Yuan 667/t, up Yuan 20/t and Yuan
