GACC: China's July thermal coal imports jump 11% YoY

China's thermal coal imports slipped 5.3% from June to 27.97 million tonnes in July but were still 11.1% above the year-earlier level, according to data from the General Administration of Customs (GACC) published on August 21.

The monthly retreat was a pause rather than a collapse. After June's spike – up 38.7% from May and 30.1% year on year – buyers stepped back as stockpiles rebuilt, yet the gap left by falling domestic output kept imports far above normal levels. By value, July's imports reached $2.35
