WEEKLY: China's HRC output dips, prices rebound further

After the previous week’s 3.1% increase, hot-rolled coil (HRC) output among the 37 Chinese steelmakers surveyed by Mysteel retreated slightly by 45,200 tonnes or 1.5% on week to total 2.92 million tonnes during August 13-19, Mysteel's latest survey showed.

Two more steelmakers in North China's Hebei province conducted maintenance stoppages on their hot strip mills last week, Mysteel Global learned. As steel mills generally suffered negative margins on finished steel sales, frequent maintenance by some mills and resumption of production by others kept HRC output hovering at relatively low levels for a few weeks.
