WEEKLY: Chinese EAF mills' production dips during holiday

Production among China’s electric-arc-furnace (EAF) steelmakers edged slightly lower during October 1-7, the week coinciding with China’s National Day holiday, as a few mills dialed down their production amid subdued end-user demand during the break, Mysteel’s survey showed.

The average capacity utilization rate among the 94 independent EAF steel producers across China sampled by Mysteel eased by 0.74 percentage point on week to 57.69% during the survey period. The decrease was mainly observed in Northeast China where one mini-mill had conducted maintenance during the week, according to Mysteel's survey. This resulted in some 1,000 tonnes/day of lost production
