Last week, the cobalt salt market continued its post-holiday weakness, with prices of cobalt sulfate and cobalt chloride moving further downward and market trading activity remaining subdued. On the cost side, prices of cobalt intermediates continued to decline, and the MHP cobalt payables fell to a historic low, continuously weakening cost support for cobalt salts. On the supply side, smelters generally suspended making quotations, with actual transactions mostly negotiated on a case-by-case basis. In this condition, negotiation ranges declined noticeably, and some producers maintained production cuts or shutdowns. On the demand side, downstream ternary precursor and Co3O4 producers showed insufficient purchasing willingness. After the holiday, buyers pressed prices down noticeably on a few spot orders, maintaining only need-based procurement. The inquiry atmosphere was relatively muted, and actual transactions were limited.
