Yesterday, cobalt chloride and cobalt sulfate weakened in tandem, with both prices falling markedly, and the market as a whole continued to grind out a bottom amid persistent weakness. As concentrated arrivals of DRC cargoes in transit coincided with higher Indonesian MHP volumes and stronger substitution by domestically recycled cobalt, feedstock supply shifted from tight to ample, causing processing fees for cobalt intermediates and the MHP payables keep falling.Downstream demand also lacked highlights. Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) has already taken the dominant position in domestic battery production, while the share of the ternary route continued to shrink. Downstream lithium cobalt oxide (LCO) producers focused mainly on destocking, and their willingness to restock after the holiday was low, resulting in thin trading in cobalt sulfate and cobalt chloride. Some smelters even suspended quotations.
