WEEKLY: Chinese EAF mills' production dips amid persistent margin losses

Production of Chinese electric-arc-furnace (EAF) steelmakers edged down further during October 22-28, as some mills idled their electric furnaces under persistent operational pressure from continuous margin losses and dull finished steel demand, Mysteel's latest survey showed.

In the latest survey period, the average capacity utilization rate among the 94 independent EAF steel producers under Mysteel's tracking eased by 0.39 percentage point on week to 58.97%, while their average operational rate also lost 1.45 percentage points from the prior week to 70.55%.
