CBOT soybean futures closed lower, hitting a two-and-a-half-month low, mainly as persistent fund selling continued to weigh on prices. The U.S. soybean harvest is drawing to a close at 88% complete, slightly above the five-year average of 84%, and seasonal supply pressure from record production being realized continues to be released. Although export demand remains strong, the market has already priced in China's purchase commitments. In addition, September crush volumes of 198.8 million bushels came in below expectations, down 5.2% month on month, and the demand side failed to provide additional support. Brazil's planting progress has reached 53%, faster than 47% in the same period last year. Rainfall has improved in Mato Grosso, while excessive moisture has delayed planting in Rio Grande do Sul; overall, there is no widespread disaster threat at present.
