Despite softening domestic demand for metallurgical coal across China, Mysteel’s assessment of the seaborne premium coking coal price at Jingtang port in North China’s Hebei – among the country’s top ports receiving imported met coal – rose by Yuan 10/tonne ($1.4/t) over July 27-31. The increase mainly reflected a regional supply tightness, sources explained.

As of July 31, Mysteel’s price for the 10.5% ash, 21% volatile matter and 0.6% sulphur, for example, had increased by Yuan 10/t on week to Yuan 1,390/t at Jingtang port including the 13% VAT. “Tradable coking coal resources at Jingtang are dwindling, chiefly owing to the controls that the
