China's Jan-Nov steel scrap imports surge 25-fold

China's steel scrap imports during this year's first eleven months surged 25 times on year to total 526,589 tonnes, according to the latest statistics released by the country's' General Administration of Customs (GACC). During January-November last year when steel scrap imports were still subject to quota restrictions and tight controls, China imported only 21,936 tonnes, the data show.

In November alone, the country's steel scrap imports reversed up by 13,236 tonnes or 111.4% on month to around 25,114 tonnes after the declines of the prior three months, according to the GACC statistics.
