China tables plans for new Yangtze Delta rail project

Plans approved by China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) on October 17 to build a new high-speed railway in the Yangtze River Delta are seen lending support to demand for steel rails, especially for heavy rails, market sources generally believe, but the construction will have limited impact on prices.
The new rail project is expected to cost Yuan 36.8 billion ($5.3 billion), will cover 163.5 km and take four years to build, according to the NDRC announcement.
