Mongolia quickens building on rail links for coal exports

The Mongolian government is picking up the pace of construction on two railway lines connecting the huge Tavan Tolgoi coking coal mine in Mongolia’s South Gobi province, according to releases by the country’s Ministry of Road and Transport Development issued on Wednesday, with more of the associated earth works, pipe laying and bridge construction completed.

The two state-owned lines comprise a 414.6-kilometre railway from Tavan Tolgoi mine to Zuunbayan station in East Gobi province, a transfer station to the main rail link connecting both China and Russia, and a 267-km line between Tavan Tolgoi and the Gashuun Sukhait checkpoint, the largest checkpoint for Mongolian
