China Minmetals formally begins Chentaigou iron ore project

China Minmetals Corporation (Minmetals), a top state-owned mining investment and metals trading company, officially commenced construction Monday on its Chentaigou iron mine project in Anshan city in Northeast China's Liaoning province, according to the company's latest release.

With a total investment of Yuan 10.8 billion ($1.5 billion), the project is designed to produce 11 million tonnes/year of run-of-mine iron ore and 4.7 million t/y of concentrates after the first phase is constructed, the company announced. The Chentaigou mine will tap a high-grade sedimentary metamorphic iron ore deposit
