In September, at the International Auto Show held in Munich, BMW showcased its first prototype of a future electric vehicle. The sixth generation battery, BMW's next generation lithium-ion battery, has a 30% increase in charging speed compared to the current square battery, a 50% reduction in cost, a 60% reduction in carbon emissions.
At the end of October, the first samples of the new generation battery cells were taken offline at the BMW Group Battery Manufacturing Center, approximately 20 kilometers east of Munich, where BMW will produce and optimize battery samples for future Neue Klasse chassis based electric vehicles.
The center covers an area of 15,000 square meters, can produce 1 million cells annually, has an investment of €170 million, and has 80 employees. BMW has handed over the large-scale production of battery cells to suppliers such as CATL and Eve Energy, which will produce battery cells in six factories, including two in Europe, China, and North America.
