According to the news, Ford Motor announced this week that it may restart its Michigan electric vehicle battery factory plan in partnership with CATL.
According to the plan announced by Ford in February this year, the new battery factory located in Marshall, Michigan has an investment of $3.5 billion and an annual production capacity of 35 Gwh. It is expected to start production in 2026 and plans to hire 2500 employees to produce LFP batteries at the factory. However, the factory was announced to be suspended in September.
Ford stated in its latest statement that it will advance this project while considering the balance between investment, growth, and profitability, and will reduce production capacity. After the adjustment, the investment amount of the factory will be reduced to about $2 billion, the production capacity will be reduced by about 43%, and the expected employment positions will be reduced from 2,500 to 1,700. The battery factory is still expected to start production in 2026.
