German automaker Mercedes Benz has announced that it has reached an agreement with BMW to establish a joint venture to operate a high-power charging network in China. Mercedes Benz stated in a statement that it expects to install at least 1000 high-power charging stations and approximately 7000 charging piles in China by the end of 2026, and the project is yet to be approved by regulatory authorities. The first batch of charging stations are planned to start operating in areas with high sales of electric vehicles in 2024.
Mercedes Benz has announced earlier this year that it will invest billions of euros to build its own charging network consisting of 10,000 fast charging stations in North America, Europe, and China by 2030.
