Lithium carbonate demand revives shortly with rising LFP production in Jan
The demand for lithium carbonate has slightly picked up recently as domestic LFP manufacturers ramped up the production scheduling for January by 6.6% month on month (MoM) at 123,310 tonnes, though the sustainability of the demand is doubtful.

According to Mysteel survey, the LFP manufacturers ramped up the production mainly to build stocks for orders to be delivered in February when most market players will be shut down for Chinese New Year holiday, which will help to reduce the expenses and labor use during the holiday. Naturally, the material factories stockpiled lithium carbonate appropriately to maintain the production.
Nevertheless, the demand for lithium carbonate is more than likely to pull back quickly in February after the LFP manufacturers finish building stocks, on the backdrop that the manufacturers are generally pessimistic over the demand in the near future.
On the contrary, the ternary cathode material factories' production scheduling for January was down 5.3% MoM at 41,650 tonnes in January, in the face of sagging demand from top-tier ternary battery cell factories, including CATL and Farasis Energy.
