First stage of Zhangzhou LNG terminal to go on stream in 2024
The first phase covers three 160,000 cubic meters storage tanks which allows the facility to handle up to 3 million t/y of LNG, and is also equipped with a LNG berth with a maximum capacity of 270,000 cubic meters, gasification unit and transportation pipeline.
The supporting jetty, located in Longjiao Operation Area of Houshigang District, Xiamen Port, has recently received official approval from China's Ministry of Transport to put one port into operation temporarily, through which the LNG carried by dedicated ships can be imported. The jetty has a 150,000-tonne LNG berth that can accommodate LNG carriers up to 265,000 cubic meters.
The supporting transportation pipeline, namely the Zhangzhou LNG terminal-Chengxi station pipeline, is planned to be put into operation simultaneously with Zhangzhou LNG terminal. After the operation of the terminal, the Zhangzhou LNG terminal can achieve interconnection with the West-East Gas Pipeline through the second phase of the Haixi Natural Gas Pipeline Network, with the LNG transportation covering major consumer markets in Fujian, Jiangxi, Guangdong, Hunan, Hubei, and Zhejiang provinces.
At present, CNOOC Fujian LNG terminal is the only terminal in Fujian Province, with a receiving capacity of 6.3 million t/y, including six 160,000 cubic meters LNG storage tanks and a maximum capacity of 215,000 cubic meters LNG berth, according to OilChem. The terminal imported a total of 3.40 million tonnes of LNG in 2023, a year-on-year increase of 22.43%.

Fujian also makes efforts to push the Hanas Putian LNG terminal and PetroChina Fujian LNG terminal projects, which will further enhance the natural gas supply and storage capacity in the province, striving to achieve an annual LNG receiving capacity of 15 million tonnes by 2025.
