Glencore's met coal output surges 163% in '24, thermal coal falls 6%

Switzerland-based mining giant Glencore reported a jump of 165.3% in its metallurgical coal output in 2024, thanks to its acquisition of Elk Valley Resources (EVR) from Canadian counterpart Teck Resources, according to its annual production report issued on January 30. The company's thermal coal output fell 6.1%, however.

During last year, the company produced 19.9 million tonnes of met coal (on a 100% basis), including 12.5 million tonnes provided by EVR for post-acquisition operation from July 11, the report said.
