Japan fumes at Malaysia's AD duties on its tinplate

Last week's announcement by Malaysia's Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) that it has imposed anti-dumping (AD) duties on imports of electrolytic tinplate originating from China, India, South Korea and Japan has brought a strong response from the Japanese industry which described the decision as "very regrettable".

The targeted products are flat-rolled products of iron or non-alloy steel, of a width of 600mm or more, clad, plated or coated with tin (electrolytic tinplate or tinplate) originating from or imported from the four countries, according to the ministry's release on May 14.
