Indonesia's Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, confirmed that the approval for RKAB will be reviewed annually starting next year. The current RKAB is approved every three years through the digital system e-RKAB.
The shift responds to a proposal from the 12th Committee of Indonesia's House of Representatives. Bahlil conveyed the proposal at the work meeting on Wednesday, July 2, 2025. He endorsed legislators' view that annual approvals will better address recent downturns in global mineral and coal markets, particularly coal.
Bahlil stated his ministry has prepared systems to ensure implementation of annual RKAB processing without compromising validity. Tri Winarno, Director General of Minerals and Coal, said that the department is formulating relevant regulations to implement annual approval, and all approval stages of RKAB will be completed through the system, achieving full online processing without the need for traditional manual approval.
