On July 30, SK Innovation, SK On, and SK Enmove held respective board meetings and approved the merger plan for the latter two companies. The newly merged entity is set to be officially established on November 1, 2025, marking another major restructuring for SK On. This follows last year's consolidation of core subsidiaries SK Innovation and SK E&S.
The merger represents a key step in SK Group's business realignment. SK On specializes in electric vehicle (EV) batteries, while SK Enmove operates in lubricants and liquid cooling solutions. By integrating their resources, SK Innovation aims to enhance competitiveness in the electrification era and advance toward its vision of becoming a comprehensive energy company.
On August 1, SK On announced the renaming of its Battery Research Institute to the Future Technology Research Institute, reinforcing its strategic focus on next-generation battery technologies.
SK On currently operates a pilot production line for semi-solid-state batteries, with plans to deliver sample battery cells by late 2026, aligning with its roadmap for next-gen energy storage solutions.
