PT Aneka Tambang (ANTAM), Indonesia's largest state-owned nickel producer, reported a NPI production of 4,569 tonnes (in Ni. content) in the second quarter of 2025, representing a 1.58% increase quarter-on-quarter but a 15.07% decline year-on-year. Nickel ore production reached 4.47 million tonnes (wmt), down 3.5% quarterly but up 63% annually.
The company's existing NPI capacity of 27,000 nickel tonnes is located in Kolaka, Southeast Sulawesi, with an additional 13,500 nickel tonnes under construction in East Halmahera, North Maluku.
First-quarter NPI sales plummeted 80.91% quarterly to 924 metal tonnes, with all H1 sales absorbed by export markets -- primarily South Korea, India, and China. Nickel ore sales rose 14.05% quarterly to 4.37 million wmt, with most ore allocated to domestic low-grade nickel industries and internal feedstock needs for ANTAM's Kolaka NPI operations.
To enhance sustainable competitiveness in gold operations, ANTAM accelerated development of precious metal refining facilities at Gresik JIIPE during H1 2025 to meet growing market demand. In the nickel sector, the company advanced multiple preparatory tasks -- including permits and funding -- for Indonesia's electric vehicle battery ecosystem project.
On June 29, 2025, ANTAM inaugurated two key facilities -- A battery plant (JV5) in Karawang, West Java. An integrated battery industrial park in Buli, East Halmahera, hosting RKEF (JV2), HPAL (JV3), battery material (JV4), and battery recycling (JV6) plants.
