BHP to mothball Queensland met coal mine in Nov amid falling returns

Australian mining giant BHP announced on September 17 that it will halt operations at its Saraji South Mine, a major metallurgical coal site near Dysart in Queensland, citing low selling prices and high state royalties as factors eroding returns.
Operated by the BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) as part of the Saraji Mine Complex, the open-cut mine is reportedly scheduled to be placed into "care and maintenance" from November this year for the company's sustainability concerns and the need to optimize its asset portfolio.   Public records indicate that Saraji South
