Rio Tinto, Mitsui, Nippon Steel to pour $733 mln in Pilbara iron ore project

Australian mining giant Rio Tinto, together with Japanese trader Mitsui Iron Ore and Japan's largest integrated steel company Nippon Steel, will invest $733 million to extend the West Angelas Sustaining Project in Western Australia's Pilbara region under their joint venture Robe River, according to Rio Tinto's news release on Tuesday.

The project will develop new iron ore deposits in the West Angelas hub, with the aim to sustain the hub's production capacity at 35 million tonnes/year, extending mining activity in the region for coming years. In addition, the project will construct new non-process infrastructure precincts and 22-kilometre haul roads
