Japan's crude steel output falls further in Sept

Japan seems set to record its lowest crude steel production total in decades this year, preliminary data released Wednesday by the Japan Iron & Steel Federation (JISF) suggest, with the full year production on both a calendar and fiscal year basis reaching as low as 80 million tonnes. A decade ago in 2015, Japan produced 105.1 million tonnes.
Japan's domestic crude steel production last month totalled 6.38 million tonnes, down by 3.7% from the same month last year and making for the sixth successive month that output was lower than the same month in 2024. The tonnage was also lower by 3.9% from August, another worrying result
