Sumitomo Corporation reported that its Ambatovy project in Madagascar produced 9,000 tonnes of refined nickel (nickel briquette) during the third quarter of 2025 (Q2 FY2025), representing a 26.76% increase from the previous quarter and a 5.88% rise compared to the same period last year. Of the total production, 4,900 tonnes were attributable to Sumitomo's share, while 4,100 tonnes belonged to Korea Resources.
Following a detailed inspection of the slurry pipeline in Q4 FY2024, Sumitomo gradually ramped up operations after confirming pipeline integrity, achieving full and stable production by early May. The quarterly production met planned targets and exceeded production levels from the same period in FY2024.
