On November 10, foreign media reported that Toyota Motor Corporation has once again delayed the construction plan for its electric vehicle battery plant in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. Originally intended to be the world's first solid-state battery factory, this marks the second postponement for the project. According to sources, Toyota cited slowing market demand for EVs as the reason for halting the plant's construction.
In March this year, Toyota postponed the construction, stating that EV demand has fallen short of expectations. According to the original plan, the factory was scheduled to break ground in early 2025 and begin production within 2028, with Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry planning to provide subsidies. Toyota emphasized that this adjustment does not mean canceling the project. The company will reassess and develop a new plan over the next year or so, and the plant's launch timeline and production details may be adjusted accordingly.
