China Lithium Inventory Alert 20251222

On December 19, the first environmental impact assessment (EIA) public notice was issued for the Zhaokouli (Yifeng County) - Jianxiawo (Fengxin County) lithium mining project in Jiangxi Province. Following the announcement, market consensus has solidified around the expectation that the Jianxiawo project will not resume production in the near term, leading to a significant surge in lithium prices. Amid recent sharp increases in futures prices, upstream smelters have been actively selling to traders at levels above Yuan 105,000/tonne. As a result, only a small number of traders managed to reduce their inventory on a weekly basis.
