IAI: Global alumina output surpasses 13 million tonnes in November

On a per-day basis, worldwide alumina production averaged 437,500 tonnes last month, representing a 1.8% increase from a month earlier, Mysteel Global calculated based on the IAI statistics.

China led global alumina production again, with November output estimated at 8 million tonnes, accounting for roughly 61% of global production. Last month's volume represented a 9.1% increase from the same month last year but a 2% decline from October. 

IAI's estimate for Chinese alumina output was 138,000 tonnes lower than figures released by the country's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Mysteel Global noted. The NBS data showed that China's alumina output totalled 8.14 million tonnes in November, up 7.6% on year and 3.5% on month.

During the same month, Oceania ranked as the world's second largest alumina production region, even though output slipped 0.9% from a year ago to 1.5 million tonnes in November, according to the IAI data. Africa and Asia (excluding China) ranked third, with combined production of around 1.3 million tonnes, up 7.3% on year.

Over the January-November period of 2025, global alumina production amounted to 140.5 million tonnes, rising by 5% from the same period in 2024, according to IAI.
