South32 Limited, a mining, smelting, and refining company in Australia, is a major global nickel producer with its primary operations centered at the Cerro Matoso mine in Colombia.
South32 recently released its production report for the fourth quarter of 2025. Ferronickel production from the Cerro Matoso project stood at 5,600 tonnes in nickel content, representing a 40.43% decline compared to the previous quarter and a 43.43% decrease year-on-year.
In the five months leading up to its sale on December 1, 2025, the Cerro Matoso mine produced 15,000 tonnes of deliverable nickel. Additionally, on December 1, 2025, the company completed the sale of Cerro Matoso to a subsidiary of CoreX Holding B.V.
