Algeria's Gara Djebilet mine ships first ore via new railway

Algeria's Gara Djebilet iron ore mine, located in the country's western desert near the Moroccan border, has completed its first iron ore shipments, transporting 1,450 tonnes via the newly inaugurated railway linking the remote mine and the city of Bechar.

The railway, which spans nearly 1,000 kilometers, officially opened on February 1. It allows iron ore from the Gara Djebilet mine to be transported to Bechar for preliminary processing before onward shipment to Oran province, where it will be used for steel production.
