MYSTEEL: Mid-East conflict to have minimal impact on global iron ore supply

The recent escalation of conflict in the Middle East involving the U.S., Israel and Iran has stoked concerns about prolonged disruptions to global trade and commodity flows, particularly after Iran 'closed' the Strait of Hormuz, a key maritime corridor. However, any direct impact on global iron ore supplies -- especially to China -- is expected to be negligible, a new Mysteel analytical report suggests, though heightened market volatility and rising freight costs could lend short-term support to ore prices.

Iran, a major regional steel producer, holds an estimated 3.8 billion tonnes of iron ore reserves, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Nonetheless, it plays only a marginal role in the global iron ore trade, as the country consumes most of its output domestically to support its ongoing steel
