As of April 6, 2026, Indonesia's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has approved 2026 Work Plan and Budget (RKAB) nickel production quotas totaling approximately 190-200 million tonnes.
Minerals and Coal Director General Tri Winarno stated on the same day that while some RKAB-related data is still being finalized, the overall approval process is nearing completion.
Responding to the Energy and Mineral Resources Minister's earlier remarks about potential quota relaxations, Tri noted that specific easing mechanisms have yet to be determined. Any relaxation would need to be implemented through RKAB revisions, which have not yet been submitted. He emphasized that quota adjustments will continue to follow the principle of supply-demand balance, as any oversupply in the market would once again pressure nickel prices. Therefore, the 2026 nickel production quota is expected to remain within the range of 190-200 million tonnes per year, with the final figure depending on whether and how relaxation mechanisms are introduced.
