India's coal output exceeds one billion tonnes again in FY26

India's raw coal production totalled 1.04 billion tonnes in its fiscal year 2026 ending March, exceeding the 1 billion-tonne mark for the second consecutive year, despite a 0.6% fall from a year ago, according to the latest data issued by the country's Ministry of Coal.
Although the volume fell short of the targeted 1.16 billion tonnes for the fiscal year, analysts pointed out that the production achievement of over 1 billion tonnes for two straight years demonstrated India's coal supply resilience amid uncertainties in global energy markets due to the Middle East conflicts.
