Thailand's coal imports jump 45.5% in March

Thailand imported 1.785 million tonnes of coal in March, marking a sharp rise of 45.5% year on year but remaining largely unchanged from February, according to the latest data from Thai Customs.
The strong year-on-year growth may partly reflect fuel-switching dynamics in Thailand, as Middle East tensions disrupted natural gas supply from the Persian Gulf and drove up gas prices.   However, the increase is more likely attributable to a low comparison base in 2025, when weaker power demand and higher gas utilization
