Chalco to build 1.2 million t/y alumina refinery in Guinea

China's state-owned aluminum producer, Aluminum Corporation of China (Chalco), entered into an agreement with the government of Guinea on May 21 for a 1.2 million tonnes/year alumina refinery project in the West African country, according to an announcement released by the company on May 22.

The agreement was signed by Guinean authorities and three subsidiaries under Chalco including Chalco Hong Kong, a mining company, and a port operator. The deal represents a revision of the 'Mining Convention' originally signed in June 2018 for Chalco's Boffa bauxite project in Guinea and is a supplement to it,
