NBS: China's coal mining, washing industry profits rise 21% YoY in Jan-Apr

The combined profit of major enterprises in China's coal mining and washing sector reached Yuan 124.23 billion ($18.3 billion) during the first four months of this year, rising by 21% on year, according to the latest data issued by the National Bureau of Statistics of China (NBS) on May 27. The NBS defines major enterprises as those with annual primary business revenues of Yuan 20 million or more.

Operating revenue for the industry totalled Yuan 874.72 billion in January-April, up 3.7% on year, the NBS data show. The improved profitability of coal miners during this year's first four months was primarily driven by higher coal prices amid tighter supply-demand fundamentals, especially at a time when heightened geopolitical tensions
