Australian coal exports via Gladstone rise 4% MoM in May

Exports of coal for all uses from Gladstone port in Queensland, Northeast Australia, rose 3.8% on month and 11.7% on year in May, settling at 5.6 million tonnes, Mysteel Global calculated based on the latest data from Gladstone Ports Corporation (GPC).
Coking coal accounts for around 70% of Gladstone's total coal throughput, making the port a major export conduit from coal mined in the central Queensland coal fields, Mysteel Global notes.     Contributing to the increase in coal throughput via the port last month was a rally in shipments to Japan.
